Why we only cover games that work offline

Why we only cover games that work offline

March 25, 2026 · Marta Kowalczyk

Phones are the one device that's supposed to work anywhere, yet so many games stop dead without a connection. That's the itch this whole site scratches.

When we test a game, the first thing we do is switch on airplane mode. It's shocking how many titles crash, freeze on a loading spinner or lock you out of half their content. Those get flagged immediately.

There's a practical reason too. Signal drops on trains, in basements, on flights, in the countryside. A game that only works on strong wifi isn't really a mobile game, it's a home game that happens to be on your phone.

We're not against online features. We just think the core of a good phone game should still be there when the bars disappear. That's the line we hold when picking what to cover.
